What a great couple of days we’ve just had at Semi-Permanent. Almost 16 hours immersed amongst the world’s finest creatives and we were saturated with inspiration. An overall theme of the idea of collaboration was prominent throughout both days, as well as needing to overcome ones fear of failure if you want to get ahead in your career.
We were thoroughly impressed with the calibre of most of the speakers and there was a good variety of disciplines involved. We were in awe of the skills of Kelly Thomson and Sandra Dieckmann – both fantastic illustrators and role models for young women in their own right.
NZ’s own graffiti artist, Askew, gave a very humble but humorous speech and was popular with the crowd. German Niklas Roy of Royrobotics showed us some of his silly but delightful creations that had us all giggling.
To round off the event we had an honest talk from Dominic Hofstede emphasizing that vanity projects don’t always pay the bills. One of his stand-out quotes was, ” Everything’s been done before, it’s your take on it that’s important”.
If you get the chance to head along to next years event – do so! It’s an enlightening event for any person – creative or not.
